F17’s U9 & U10 Wolf Packs take on the Epson Youth Challenge.
During last week of July and the first week of August, F17 sent in 2 teams to participate in the Epson Youth Challenge held at Our Tampines Hub.
Our U9 team was drawn into a very strong group, perhaps even known as the group of death in the U9 Division of the tournament. The group featured strong teams such as White Sands, Hougang DC and Serangoon DC just to name a few.
The team fought hard and did not concede a single goal until they faced Serangoon DC. In that crucial game, our U9 Wolf Pack from 0-3 down, roared back to 2-3 but in the closing moments just couldn’t find the equaliser.
That loss ended the boys hope of moving forward to the final day.
What was inspiring however, was the trademark F17, never say die attitude. Constant running the hunger to win the ball was there till the final whistle. We are all extremely proud of our U9 Wolf Pack.
The U10s, were us as inspirational. Challenging in the U11 category, the boys were playing against teams a year older than them. The boys were given a rare opportunity and experience and oh boy, did they grasp it with both hands.
The boys exceeded all expectations to win their games and move on to the final day. As the competition on the final day got tougher, the boys found it more challenging.
While they did not win the tournament, it was great to see the team do their very best against older, more experienced teams and defy all odds by going on a great run. These challenges, more so than merely chasing wins, are the very things that build the foundation of great teams.
We are so happy that both the teams learnt so much for this tournament. Their never say die, run till you drop and don’t know when we are beaten attitude inspires all of us each day and gives us the motivation to send as many of our kids to as many tournaments as possible.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Epson, FAS, ActiveSg and Geylang Internation Football Club for creating such a great opportunity for the players. We cannot wait to be back next year!
